BACP Registered Psychotherapist · BSc Psychotherapy (Children & Young People)
About me
My name is Cheryl.
I'm a BACP registered person-centred psychotherapist based in Wigan, trained in the tradition of Carl Rogers. I qualified as a psychotherapist in 2018 and went on to complete a BSc in Psychotherapy with Children and Young People in 2019 - the culmination of five years of dedicated study. Coming to this work wasn't a straightforward path; I spent my earlier career in revenues and benefits, but over time I felt a clear calling to do something more. I'm glad I listened to it.
Before entering private practice, I built a broad and varied foundation of experience across a range of settings. I worked with young people in high schools and colleges, with a particular focus on suicide and self-harm. I supported families of children in care through a family centre, and worked alongside women navigating some of life's most difficult circumstances at a women's centre. For the past seven years I have worked within a GP practice as part of the NHS - a role I continue alongside my private practice - supporting people with complex mental health needs, long-term conditions, and the compounding challenges that come with social disadvantage.
I have particular experience working with childhood trauma, attachment difficulties, and adults who are diagnosed with or exploring neurodiversity. I have a specific interest in the experiences of Third Culture Kids - people who grew up moving between countries and cultures, often carrying a quiet sense of not quite belonging anywhere. It's something I understand personally, having been brought up in a military family and lived abroad for much of my childhood. I have supported many families in navigating systems around their children's needs, including how to advocate effectively with schools.
Outside of my work, I am a wife and mother to five - which keeps life full and grounding in equal measure. My faith as a Christian shapes the compassion and hope I bring to every session. I believe deeply in the resilience of the human spirit, and it is a privilege to walk alongside people as they find their way through.
What I believe
Therapy rooted in hope and compassion.
These are the values that shape every session I offer.
You are truly heard
I listen -not just to your words, but to what lies beneath them. There is no agenda, no rush, and no judgement. Your pace is the right pace.
Healing is possible
I hold a deep belief in the human capacity for restoration and growth. However heavy things feel right now, there is hope - and I will hold that hope with you.
You are more than your struggles
Therapy is not about fixing what is broken. It is about rediscovering your own strength, wisdom and wholeness - which has always been there.
Professional registration & ethics
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework. This means you can trust that your sessions are held to the highest professional and ethical standards, and that your confidentiality is protected.
